Primary Support Design – Rock Tunnels & Caverns
Rock tunnels and caverns are an integral part of many major infrastructure projects. All members of the NOMA team have been involved in the design and construction of large span tunnels and caverns in varying rock conditions and have significant experience in the use of road headers, and conventional drill and blast techniques, as well as sequential excavation methods (SEM), also referred to as the New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM), and shotcrete linings in weak rock.
When it comes to hard rock tunnels, we believe firmly that the design must follow established principles of rock mechanics and must draw on the combined expertise of geologists, geotechnical and tunnel engineers. This allows us to understand critical areas and address them early on in the project.
• State-of-the-art rock mechanics and rock engineering
• Rock bolt support with temporary shotcrete
• Excavation sequences
• Tunnel intersections, rock pillars and openings
